Hoot’s Holiday, A Solstice Tale is an children’s holiday story, written by museum staff writer Charlie Catacalos. Hoot, a barn owl who lives on the roof of the museum, goes back in history to find objects used long ago in order to host a solstice celebration for all his friends. Original iIllustrations present the museum’s permanent collection in a new narrative, as Hoot races the clock searching for a table, musical instruments, and refreshments for his solstice party. Visitors enter the exhibition by walking through a door that was also the cover to the book — actually entering the story (shown below).

Each illustration is a wall-sized mural, average size is 11’6” w x 7’5” h.
